OpenSpan, Inc. Named "Cool Vendor" by Gartner
Release Date: April 11, 2006

Atlanta, GA – OpenSpan, Inc., the pioneer of Surface Integration™ technology and a leading provider of desktop application integration software, has been included in the list of "Cool Vendors" in the "Cool Vendors in Application Development 2006" report by Gartner, Inc., authored by analyst Dale Vecchio.

OpenSpan was listed in the Gartner Report, which lists seven emerging technology firms within Application Development, or AD, and highlights vendors that "are concentrating on developing improved approaches to increasing the quality and effectiveness of the AD process."

According to Gartner: “OpenSpan provides an easy-to-use way to construct new composite applications using established Windows or Web applications. Organizations are considering reusing applications, rather than incurring the cost and risk of a complete migration or rewrite. OpenSpan has created a technology that enables reuse from any Microsoft Windows environments in one place — right on the desktop. OpenSpan's Composite Studio enables designers to select items from any running application and build automations, interactions, dashboards and composite applications, non-invasively and without coding. Results are possible in a short time because the technique makes use of objects that have already been created (in the desktop application).”

OpenSpan’s flagship product Composite Studio enables technical and non-technical users to visually create application integrations and extensions via a highly intuitive graphical design studio. Existing web, Windows, legacy, Java and DOS applications can be extended and integrated in order to create seamless, highly efficient workflow. Whether the objective is to extend the life and capability of one or more existing applications, or create a composite application based on multiple underlying applications built on different platforms, Composite Studio enables this to be done simply, non invasively and at lightning speed.

“Our technology is generating extraordinary interest, particularly with call centers who are amazed that high value integration can be delivered so quickly and easily” says Francis Carden, CEO of OpenSpan. “When they see the technology in action, the initial response is disbelief. With integration projects lasting only a few weeks instead of months and years, call centers are now realizing almost immediate ROI.”

About Gartner's Cool Vendors Selection Process
Gartner's listing does not constitute an exhaustive list of vendors in any given technology area, but rather is designed to highlight interesting, new and innovative vendors, products and services. Gartner disclaims all warranties, expressed or implied, with respect to this research, including any warranties of merchantability or fitness of a particular purpose. Gartner defines a cool vendor as a company that offers technologies or solutions that are: Innovative, enable users to do things they couldn't do before; Impactful, have, or will have, business impact (not just technology for the sake of technology); Intriguing, have caught Gartner's interest or curiosity in approximately the past six months.
