OpenSpan Improves Integration Between Java and Windows Environments

OpenSpan Platform v3.1 Release Features Enhanced Integration Support for Java, Siebel 7 and Windows 32-bit Vista Controls

ATLANTA, August 6, 2007 – OpenSpan, Inc., the enabler of the New Enterprise Desktop, today announced the OpenSpan Platform v3.1, the industry’s leading enterprise solution for rapid application integration and automation on the desktop. With the addition of several new platform connectors, the OpenSpan Platform v3.1 enables enterprises to more easily integrate data and extend business process automations across Java and Windows environments, including the Windows Vista operating system.  OpenSpan also announced support for Siebel version 7 and above and that the company has joined the Oracle Partner Network.

“With this upgrade, OpenSpan continues to build on its value proposition: rapid, simple and cost-effective integration of a wide variety of platforms, applications and technologies,” said Ovum Summit Research Director Warren Wilson. “By adding native APIs for a variety of popular applications, OpenSpan makes it easier for customers to integrate them with legacy applications that are mission-critical and too expensive to replace.”

New Features of OpenSpan Platform v3.1

The OpenSpan Platform is the industry’s only software platform that transcends traditional server and user interface integration technologies by leveraging the interactions between applications and the underlying operating system. This dramatically simplifies the integration process across both legacy and modern application platforms, including Web services.  It also allows enterprises to build business process automations that span multiple environments, including desktop applications.  OpenSpan Platform v3.1 builds upon the rich integration library of previous versions by adding support for several leading enterprise technologies:

  • Support for leading Java user interfaces including Sun, AWT and Swing
  • Siebel v7+ support
  • Windows Vista 32-bit application support
  • Active X-enhanced support
  • Enhanced host support for interfacing with mainframe applications

The OpenSpan Platform v3.1 enables enterprise organizations in any industry to increase the power of their employee desktops by integrating applications, automating manual processes, extending functionality of existing applications, and more quickly and cost-effectively creating customized composite applications.

OpenSpan has added Siebel v7+ to its Platform as a direct response to customer demand to integrate their most pervasive applications. The Siebel Customer Relationship Management (CRM) suite has more than four million deployed seats and more than 150 million registered self-service users. In the same vein, OpenSpan has announced that it has become a member of the Oracle Partner Network.

“With the OpenSpan Platform v3.1 we’re responding to customer demands to rapidly integrate and automate across popular desktop applications, such as Seibel 7 and Windows Vista, as well as adapters to the various Java user interfaces,” said Francis Carden, CEO of OpenSpan. “As they optimize the New Enterprise Desktop, our customers are re-architecting their business processes around these integrated applications and achieving greater overall business productivity.”
